Volunteer Opportunities Get Involved: Empowering

We’re an alternative high school diploma program for students who have withdrawn from the traditional education system. Students are counseled towards development of self-esteem, vocational goals and improved interpersonal and personal development. Classes are uniquely geared to the academic and emotional needs of the students enrolled. The staff consists of experienced social workers, educators and professionals who contribute their expertise as volunteer tutors and instructors. Registered by the State Education Department, graduates earn a High School Diploma. College and vocational admission assistance are also provided.

“Being at HECS helped me realize that school didn’t have to feel like a chore. I never thought I’d ever say I was excited to come to school. Before enrolling at HECS, I missed school at least twice a week, but that all changed after joining this amazing school. I feel so lucky to have been a part of such a wonderful community.”
“HECS gave me a gift I honestly couldn’t find anywhere else. Here I found a family that encourages me to push forward. Even now, having graduated from the program, I couldn’t be more grateful for all it’s done and continues to do for me.”
“My family walked the same halls I did, and to be honest, I couldn’t have asked for it any other way. Studying, working, and graduating from here is an experience I don’t think you can get from any other school. Harriet Eisman is just that special.”
“This school is one of the main reasons I am who I am. I made so many friends and family while I was studying here and working toward my diploma. I loved, and still love, this place for giving me my fair shot at a diploma!”
“Harriet Eisman is just the place I needed in my life to get me on the right track. Thanks to my sister introducing me to the program, I now have a home away from home that I’m always excited to go to every day!”
